The Heritage Project

The Asian Home Culinary Culture Evolution in Newham (1960-2000): The Heritage project, funded by National Heritage Fund, is about collecting the oral history of - How Asian women adapted, created fusions and changed the culinary experiences of their communities.

The project recruited twelve diverse community volunteers and trained them in oral history, archival research and archiving. They undertook oral history interviews of twenty-four Asian women and men (aged 60-80), six descendants and six non-Asians who dined in their homes.

The oral history recordings and relevant documents will be handed over to Newham Archives, which can be accessed by the public.
